Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is in St. Lawrence County. To reduce liability issues and costs associated with EAB, the Village of Canton is undergoing an ash tree removal and alternative tree planting initiative. A workshop to teach the proper way to plant a tree, along with information about EAB will be hosted by the St. Lawrence County Soil& Water Conservation District and the Cornell Cooperative Extension along with the Village of Canton. Nature Up North will be exhibiting at the event as well and can help answer questions and inform the public about their Community Ash Tree Survey Tool.
If you would like to learn how to plant trees that your grandchildren can point to with pride, please this Tree Planting Care Workshop on Saturday, October 13 from 9AM to 12PM in Canton’s Bend-In-The-River Park at 90 Lincoln Street. The class is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is requested. Those who have ash trees on their property are especially encouraged to join as they will likely lose their trees and benefit from attending.
To register or for more information, call Aaron Barrigar at the St. Lawrence County Soil and Water Conservation District at (315) 386-3582.
