Spotted Lanternfly Field Observations and Biocontrol Studies

The invasive spotted lanternfly, Lycorma delicatula, has been observed to die due to fungal infections. Eric Clifton and colleagues from the Hajek lab at Cornell have been collecting isolates of these fungi since 2018 in infested regions of Pennsylvania. They have conducted laboratory-based bioassays and field trials with commercial biopesticides that contain fungal entomopathogens. In this seminar, Eric will explore our current understanding of these native beneficial fungi and their potential for managing Spotted Lanternfly. In addition, he’ll share some of his experiences from the zones of infestation, including tips for spotting egg masses.
