Help the NYS Hemlock Initiative
Survey for HWA Biocontrol Establishment at High Tor WMA. The New York State Hemlock Initiative is seeking volunteers to assist with a survey for biological control establishment at the High Tor Wildlife Management Area on Friday, November 9th at 11:00 am.
Laricobius nigrinus (aka “Little Larry”) was released at High Tor as a predatory insect to help control the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid population that has been found in the area. This survey will help researchers gauge the success of the release and establishment of the predatory beetle. The survey will be led by Nick Dietschler, Research Technician with the NYS Hemlock Initiative. Nick will train volunteers on the survey method, provide background on the biocontrols, and will be available to answer questions.
Meet at the Parish Glen / Conklin Gully parking on Route 245 at 11:00 am. As a warning – the start of the hike is fairly steep.
